Day Two pre-season testing – afternoon session

This afternoon’s session was a bit quieter than this morning’s session, but still a lot of important information and data for teams to collect.

Lewis Hamilton was in the car all day for Ferrari and managed a few more laps than he did this morning. It is still unknown why he only managed six laps earlier but managed 59 laps this afternoon.

Fernando Alonso broke down in turn four around an hour into the afternoon session. There seemed to have been an issue with the PU; the yellow flag waved until the red flag was brought out to allow the Aston Martin team members to check the car.

Race Simulations were in full swing during the last hour and a half, as this is where the time and temperatures reflect a more accurate race in Bahrain.

Turn one and turn 10 seemed to have been an issue for most drivers today, with a lot of them locking up and flat-spotting their tyres.

As the session came to a close in the last 10 minutes, the circuit had its tests with the red flags and yellow flags. 10 teams queued up in the pit lane for them to go to the grid for their practise starts.

The McLaren of Oscar Piastri stopped on the escape road on turn 1, which seemed like a gearbox issue, but he soon got going again and joined the rest of the drivers on the grid for the practise start.

All of the drivers made it away from the grid on the practice start, with Lewis Hamilton making it away nicely.

Kimi Antonelli finished the afternoon off with the fastest time of 1m32.803s, 0.058s in front of the McLaren of Oscar Piastri, with Verstappen in third.
